Assortment of Six Antique and Vintage French,British and Belgian Silver Plate Knives
T
his set of antique and vintage silver plated knives consists of an assortment of French, British and Belgian pieces.
-The first, a French knife, is stamped on the blade with the name of the luxury hotel, the “
Royal Deauville
”, in Normandy and with the word “
Inox
” (stainless).
-The second, a French knife, is stamped on the blade “
Apollonox
” and bears the mark, “
1er
Titre
”, on the handle. The
Apollonox
factories were located in Thiers, in the Auvergne region of France, capital of the the French cutlery industry for centuries. The headquarters of the company were in Paris,
rue
Pastourelle
, in the Marais district.
-The third, an English knife, in an
Art Deco
design, is stamped on the blade, “
N. Barnett & Co
”, and “
Stainless steel. Made in Sheffield
”.
-The fourth, a Belgian knife, is stamped on the blade, “
Bruno
Wiskemann
,
orfèvre
à
Bruxelles
”, and “
inoxydable
" (stainless).
Bruno
Wiskemann
opened his factory in 1870. The handle bears a military insignia consisting of the royal crown of Belgium and two wings along with the inscription, “
2Aé
”.
-The fifth, a French knife, has a gilded metal handle and the blade is stamped with the maker’s mark consisting of a dragon’s head along with the initials C.G. and the word “
Inoxydable
” (stainless).
-The sixth, an English knife, is stamped on the blade with the maker’s mark, “
Elkington
Plate
”, a silver electroplating company founded during the 19th
century by George
Richards
Elkington
and with the insignia of “
The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company
”, the well known British shipping company. The handle bears a mark with the letter, “Z”, indicating the year of production.
Due to age and use, these knife shows signs of wear, small dents and scratches but are in solid condition. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
