Description

An Antique Burmese Arakan Lacquer Box Rakhine State, Western Burma C19th.
A rare Burmese lacquer box from the ancient city of Arakan. These boxes were used to store religious relics, scriptures, and other precious artifacts in temples and monasteries. The manufacturing process starts with bamboo strips with clay and horsehair added for strength, then coats the many of lacquer are painstakinly applied.
